I believe that the next revival will be Christians becoming christians.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
― Howard Thurman
If anyone has a right to say that they are fully alive; it’s Christians.
You are a son of God.
I spent much time thinking about the handle I’d call myself on here; one of my ideas was ‘Prodigal son’. But I’m not a prodigal son. I WAS but now I’m reconciled, redeemed and restored.
I had a look at what the word ‘prodigal’ meant; it means “given to extravagant expenditure, lavish, wasteful” which of course the prodigal son was, until he had nothing and returned to his father.
I wonder how extravagant the son was on his return; there’s nothing wrong with being extravagant; God is lavish in His generosity; look at seeds in nature and the apparent recklessness of the sower in the parable; but there must have been a focus to his generostity, as there should be to ours.
I find it very difficult when songs come up in church that focus on what a worthless wretch I am. I don’t think that that glorifies God at all. I’m very careful with what I sing and repeat; our words carry power. We should be modest and humble, we all are aware of the dangers of pride, but we are sons, who give ourselves as bondslaves.
The prodigal son came home with this attitude:
“I will set out and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired laborers.”
Luke 15: 18 &19
The father of course ran to meet him and embraced him in joyous love. Rather than treating him as a hired servant he gave him a robe, a ring and sandals, more about these in another blog.
We have returned to the Father; we have been given a robe, a ring and sandals and yet many of us wonder around behaving like we are hired servants who really don’t deserve any of this. You are fully alive! In Him you are a son, get over yourself and be who you’ve been created to be, because the world needs you; WE ALL need you!
