This piece is going to reassure you that not only are you not a mistake, or of little value, but that you are made, and your very existence is a commissioning – so we need you!
‘Exesti’ is a Latin word and it means ‘it is lawful, permitted, possible’. You exist because it is lawful, according to God, for you to exist.
If you live, you are commissioned. You have a purpose and it’s your responsibility to drill down into that. In fact that’s the fundamental question we ask ourselves – why am I here, what’s the meaning of life?
Quite simply you are alive to bear witness to God on this earth. Through relationship with God, to live in a way that glorifies Him in every interaction you have with His creation, His earth; whether that be people, plants, trees; whatever. And to, through honouring Him in these interactions, to bring them into alignment with Him. This is the ministry of reconciliation Paul spoke about.
Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5: 18 – 20
This realisation brings us a sense of vision, a sense of purpose and a freedom to live, but can also prompt painful questions – “Why are we unable to conceive, why did my child die, why did God not heal my sister?” God’s ways are beyond our ways, and His thoughts our thoughts. The ‘why’ behind God’s commissioning of life, and death is beyond us, but He does promise that the Holy Spirit is with us as a comforter.
I can testify to God’s unwavering love through the grief I have experienced in my life.
I can also testify to a sense of anticipation as I lay my life before God as an offering – have Your way Father.
